THE PEASELBURG NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING WILL BEGIN AT 6:30pm
We will discuss citywide concerns and criminal activity in our neighborhood so please bring your questions / concerns!
We normally have a Covington police officer in attendance and appreciate your concerns and attendance on how to keep our neighborhood safe. Please remember to email us to report activity or ask any questions in between meetings.
THE FRIENDS OF PEASELBURG MEETING WILL BEGIN AT 7:00pm
We will discuss ongoing business, along with our Annual 4th of July Parade and Garden/Planter project.
We will also be discussing other important business.
We NEED volunteers to continue all the good work we do in the Burg....so please attend and find out where you can lend a hand! Much of our work isn't hard, we just need some extra volunteer hours from neighbors.

Covington Firefighter's Annual Fish Fry / Dessert Table
It's almost that time of year again.....we are preparing for our annual fundraiser so that we have money for our projects and events throughout the year! * Planters / Gardens / Parades / GAC / Decorations / Banners etc.

Great American Clean-Up on Saturday 4/27/19
Unlike past years, we will not be meeting at the Firemen's Hall to coordinate our GAC in Peaselburg this year.
Our members have decided to work in our five gardens cleaning debris, planting and, mulching as needed.
If you are interested in volunteering with us to work in our gardens or pick up litter, please contact us at 547-5563 or [email protected]. If it the day of the event you will find our main site at Highland and Benton.

The Covington Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with The Friends of Peaselburg Neighborhood Association, Linden Grove Cemetery and Arboretum and the Center for Great Neighborhoods to host Cinema in the Cemetery on Friday, August 4, 2017 starting at dusk.
Cinema in the Cemetery is a series of three movie screenings shown during the months of August, September and October.
The family-friendly event is open and free to the public. The movie showing will take place in Linden Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, located at 1421 Holman Avenue, Covington, KY 41011. Seating is on the lawn and moviegoers are welcome to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and picnics.
The following movies will be screened:
Friday's: August 4 - The Lego Movie September 8 - Beauty and the Beast October 13 - Hocus Pocus
Moviegoers are encouraged to come early to explore the history of the cemetery and picnic before it gets dark. The Linden Grove Cemetery and Arboretum is more than 170 years old and is the resting place of many Kentucky and Covington historical figures.
Weather-permitting, all movies will begin at dusk. Please watch the Cinema in the Cemetery Facebook page for updates regarding weather. Moviegoers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
While it is encouraged for Covington residents to walk to this event, parking will be available in a few dedicated lots around the event area. Street parking is also available. For more information, please contact Cinema in the Cemetery Committee Chair Lisa Jarboe at [email protected].
Peaselburg Independence Day Parade
Thanks to all of the volunteers, sponsors and participants that made this years parade another successful event in The Burg!
WHEN: Tuesday - July 4th at 11am WHERE: St. Augustine - West 19th and Jefferson Avenue
Each year the community of Peaselburg invites all residents, businesses, organizations, and local politicians to participate in our neighborhood 4th of July Parade.
We encourage you to join us in decorating bicycles, wagons, strollers, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, and cars/trucks/floats…and even yourself ! If you are unable to participate in the parade, please join the neighbors and line our streets.
At the conclusion of the parade, everyone is invited to join us at St. Augustine for a social gathering / refreshments and the announcement of prizes.

Many of you, including the students at Glenn O Swing, are collecting all year long and we truly appreciate your efforts. Covington Neighborhood Collaborative - Meeting area the 1st Thursday Monthly
NOTE: Meeting location is at the CGN on West 12th Street and meetings now begin at 6pm
Please remember that all CNC meetings are open to the public and we encourage our residents to attend. This is a great collaboration of neighborhood leaders from all over the city that convene to work together in making Covington a great place to live, work and play! Meetings are held on the first Thursday monthly at 6 pm at the Center for Great Neighborhoods on West 12th Street.

FOPNA Holiday Christmas Party
It is hard to believe that another year has passed by...it is already December and time for our annual gathering for our members / neighbors to celebrate the season and our successes!!! This year we will be meeting at the Center for Great Neighborhoods new Hellman Buillding: Monday, December 19th 6:00 to 9:00 pm at 321 West 12th St. / MLK Blvd
As always, we ask everyone to bring a dish to share. You are welcome to BYOB.
6pm - We begin with sharing delicious food and conversations.
Around 7pm we will begin our White Elephant Gift Exchanges - not mandatory but a ton of fun! Please don't spend a lot be sure to wrap all gifts.
We are so fortunate to have such wonderful and dedicated neighbors making a difference in the Burg. Whether you attended one meeting / event, or are one of our busiest members, we hope you will join us celebrate as we are celebrating all of us! Planters and Gardens

Fall is approaching fast and we will begin to clean out the planters and prep for winter. If you would like to change out your plants and replace them with Fall / Winter plants, feel free to do so.

Great American Clean-Up on Saturday 4/30/15
THANKS to everyone that joined us for Peaselburg's GAC event on Saturday April 25th!
As in past years, we had a good crowd of neighbors along with families from Glenn O Swing and St. Augustine schools.
We picked up litter and mulch / maintain our gardens.
Despite the rain, we hope you enjoyed the celebration of food and refreshments that followed at Goebel Park.

National Registry of Historic Places - Public meeting on Thursday May 12th
UPDATE: The nomination was a success and this section of Peaselburg is now on the registry.
As mentioned at our recent FOPNA meeting, the City plans to nominate Peaselburg for a listing on the National Registry of Historic Places. Therefore, a letter was mailed to each property within the proposed boundaries of West 19th to West 16th and Holman to Monroe Streets.
In addition,we requested that a Public Meeting be held before the nomination via the City Commission and the Review Board meetings which are being held in May. You are encouraged to attend this Public meeting to learn more about how this may effect our community:
When: Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm
Where: Center for Great Neighborhoods 1650 Russell St
Speaker: Marty Perry - Nat'l Register Coordinator KY Heritage Council.
NOTE: The first phase was approved at the state level and now it has been forwarded to Washington DC for approval.
Peaselburg Gardens and Planter Project - 2016 Planting Day scheduled for Saturday May 14th
Our volunteers have already begun working in the gardens and it is time to start thinking about our planters!
Thanks to the many Peaselburg residents that volunteered their time and money in the past...it is so worth it to see those beautiful flowers! They are absolutely beautiful, but it takes a large crew to plant them in the Spring and then water and maintain throughout the Spring and Summer.

GLENN O SWING CHILI COOKOFF FEBRUARY 17th at 6PM
FOPNA united with GOS again this year for their annual Chili Cook Off! Another successful and fun event for the families that attended. THANKS to all the chili cookers and for everyone who donated to the event!
CONGRATS to Darbra (FOPNA) who won 1st Place this year and to Ms. Bobbitt (GOS) who came in 2nd Place!
LITTER PROGRAM AT GLENN O SWING BEGINNING 10 - 20 - 16
Thanks to Abby for taking this idea and making it a reality as the Friends of Peaselburg and Glenn O Swing Elementary joined forces once again to clean up the Burg! They met on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30pm and picked up trash and learned about recycling while doing it! Thanks to Ian at GOS for helping to coordinate this project and to any adult volunteers that joined them. The GOS CLEAN BRIGADE IS AWESOME!!!!
COVINGTON TRAILS

THANKS to all of the neighbors that came out and painted blue geese feet for our unique path for the Covington Trails through the Burg! The Covington Trail project began last year as a way for neighborhoods to connect to one another by marking the sidewalks through four neighborhoods....MainStrass, WestSide, Peaselburg and Lavassor Park.
DETENTION BASIN PROJECT ON HIGHLAND UPDATE:

THANKS to the many volunteers who made this years Independence Day parade the best ever!
Many acitivities in the City to celebrate this year. We hope you were able to attend the celebrations as the Hellman Building and the Gala at the N. KY Convention Center. The documentary is still a work in progress but can be found on U Tube if you would like to check it out.

BOY'S AND GIRLS CLUB SENIOR SWIM / EXERCISE
Held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00am. Location is on West 26th Street just west of Madison Avenue. Plenty of parking and right off the bus route. Peaselburg is well represented...anyone 55 or over is welcome. See you pool side!
CONGRATS TO GLENN O SWING ELEMENTARY!
GOS is the first school in the Covington Independent School District to receive the "distinguished" rating by finishing in the 99th percentile on state test!!! * Congrats to all of the staff, teachers and youth - we are so proud of all of you and have always been proud to have you in our community and unite on projects.
CONGRATS to the GOS Custodians for receiving a 98% on their recent facility check by the district - awesome job Wayne Daryl and David!

For Appliance Pick-up please call Kenton County Public Works at 859-392-1920 to schedule a pickup for Monday’s or Friday’s. We only pick-up Appliances and 4 Tires and the items must be curbside for pick-up. Any other debris/trash items must be disposed by the resident at the Monthly Cleanup or through their Garbage Company.
Neighbors Being Responsible Pet Owners
There are many city ordinances regarding being a responsible and caring pet owner. One issue we continue to face in our neighborhood is disposing of animal excrement. Here is the City’s Ordinance…please be a good neighbor and responsible pet owner by obeying this rule.
§ 90.60 REMOVAL OF ANIMAL EXCREMENT No person shall allow an animal under his or her control to be upon public property or upon the property of another, absent the consent of the owner or occupant of the property, without some device for the removal and containment of the dog's, cat's, or other animal's excrement; nor shall any person fail to remove any excrement deposited by any animal under his or her control on public or private property. This section shall not apply to guide dogs under the control of a blind person.
Glenn O. Swing School and the Center for Great Neighborhoods Partner in a BLOCK Program
Students from the fourth and fifth grades at Glenn O. Swing participate in the BLOCK program. BLOCK stands for "BUILDING LEADERS OF COVINGTON KENTUCKY. The goals of the school based program are as follows: to learn about the history of their school, to work with school and community leaders, to develop and implement a school tour and develop leadership skills. During this program students participate in a school scavenger hunt, develop and conduct a principal interview, produce their own community invitation to the school tour, and participate in a school service learning program. The goals of the Center for Great Neighborhoods based program are: to learn about Covington's neighborhoods, to work with local leaders, to do a neighborhood improvement project, to develop leadership skills.
